Zoom H4n Recorder

The Zoom H4n offers an entry-level professional recorder with true 4-channel input capability and offers 1/4" TS (high-impedance), 3.5mm TRS (stereo mini) and XLR inputs with phantom power.  You'll feel the solid build quality and get options to do about anything possible with a compact PCM recorder.

This recorder can be used with any of our hydrophones for personal monitoring and recording with headphones. The headphone / line output can be connected to the AUX input of your marine stereo or PA system.  Sound from the external microphone (hydrophone) inputs can be monitored even while not recording--allowing it to be used as a high-quality mic preamp when not recording.

Hydrophone compatibility:  Any of our H1 or H2 hydrophones can be used with this device, but for general recording, you will probably wish for more gain while using this with our H1a, and thus we don't recommend it except for applications where undewater sound levels are high.  Our H2a-XLR will work well and offer the best connection integrity and easiest multi-channel recording hookup.  We have noticed that there is actually more gain on the 3.5mm mic input, so for best recording sensitivity, use our H2a.  If you would like the best of both worlds, you can buy our H2a-XLR with the the XLR > 3.5mm adapter and use either input.
